HTML Bookmarks and HTML Anchors and (WordPress) Page Jumps

These things allow you to link to defined, set attribute link locations as places within a webpage, blog post, blog page, or element of HTML code. You can then link to those anchors to navigate up and down throughout your article.

Read more about HTML anchors (in this linked page referred to as HTML Bookmarks) at https://www.w3schools.com/html/html_links_bookmarks.asp (the link opens in a new tab).

In WordPress, HTML anchors are termed “Page Jumps.” Read the WordPress.org article on “Page Jumps” (the link opens in a new tab).

I’ve recently added the Pretty Links (the link opens in a new tab) WordPress plugin.

You can find Pretty Links for use on your WordPress at https://wordpress.org/plugins/pretty-link/ (the link opens in a new tab). I am quite excited to get started using it.

A WordPress Child Theme

I’ve decided to have a separate blog section located at blog.kylecblanchard.net. After setting up the fresh WordPress installation in that cPanel hosting while on the phone with GoDaddy, the default theme installed was the default Twenty-Twenty WordPress theme.

I’m going to keep that blog section using a different theme for now, just to add some variation. The theme I am currently using here on kylecblanchard.net is a child theme of the default Twenty-Seventeen WordPress theme with the modifications done by myself.

What I’ve decided to do is when I have some spare time, to create a child theme for the Twenty-Twenty default theme for the blog section.

I’ll have to take a look here at the WordPress.org Child Themes Section of the Theme Developer Handbook in their WordPress Developer Resources (the link opens in a new tab) for refreshers in how to go about with child themes.

It appears that the default styles for the twenty-seventeen default template have changed, making the header image less tall. I preferred it when the image was taller. That’s another thing I’ll have to check. To see if there were any changes made to the template theme recently and, if there were, how I may be able to use custom CSS to set it back to its original size as it was only two days ago. I even switched themes temporarily from my custom child theme back to the default twenty-seventeen theme, hoping that it was simply code in my CSS (style.css) that I would be able to change if I had somehow changed something I shouldn’t have.

My work on a school project: “The Colonel Connection”

For a previous course, we were working on making a basic WordPress.com (the link opens in a new tab) site. I have (somehow) managed to still be able to access that said project. You can browse that project here at “The Colonel Connection” (the link opens in a new tab).

For my version of “The Colonel Connection,” a brief summary of that project I made is that we (The Colonel Connection) “Provide superior assistive service[s] to the Nicholls State University’s and Nicholls Online’s communities for support services to all student, staff, and, also, faculty of those communities and those communities’ families. [Our] services include[:] relocation services, career placement assistance, and networking basics and counseling. We aim to please all that we can.”

Now, as I look back over that Introduction and re-type it here, I notice I have made a few grammatical and word choice errors. I have pointed those out above by their additions inside of the brackets (“[” and “]”).
